Donate Your Desktop is a simple application designed to change the world, one desktop at a time. It helps redirect money spent on online advertising towards a charitable cause by unlocking a potential advertising space that sits idly on over a billion computers around the world. That space is your desktop background. And only you can make that available.

Companies are prepared to pay for the privilege of advertising in such a personal space. That’s why donating your desktop doesn’t cost you anything. We donate 75% of the fees we charge for distributing advertisers’ branded desktops on your behalf.

Donating your desktop is simple and risk-free. We don’t ask for credit card details and we don’t give anyone access to your computer. All you have to do is select a charity, and download our application. Once you’ve installed it and registered, you’re done. No further effort is required to enjoy the Donate Your Desktop experience.

Each day, the application will update your desktop background with a new wallpaper. Don’t expect ugly promotions either; our branded desktops are attractive full-screen images that should be a pleasure to have as your desktop background for a day. And if you install it on another computer, you’ll be able to double your donation every day!

The DYD Application

Our application won’t disturb the normal use of your computer. It just sits in the system tray (the little icon area in the bottom right-hand corner of a Windows PC) or in the Mac file menu, unless you open it.

You can be assured our application won’t give anyone access to your computer or open it up to spam or viruses. The only thing it does is request a fresh image each day from the Donate Your Desktop server and replace your current background.

If you are interested in the desktop image, you can click on the link in the application to find more information on the advertiser’s website. You can also ‘like’ the desktop on Facebook or tweet about it to share it with your friends.

You can install the application on as many computers as you like, and use the same account each time.

  2. Click 'Yes' if you are prompted to allow changes to your computer.

  3. Follow the instructions to set up Donate Your Desktop on your computer.

Donate Your Desktop in New Zealand

Currently, the DYD application can only be downloaded by New Zealand users. This is because our branded desktops are sponsored by local companies advertising to New Zealanders. However, Donate Your Desktop will be coming to your country soon. As we expand to new regions, international users will be able to join the movement!
